Anyone else excited?

Ok, 5 days and counting!! I sureley hope that you have your favourite rig sorted, and pretty much most of your fishing gear in order......

This is how the money side of things are looking. After minor discussions with most of the members, it seems like a money kitty will be the go. The idea is that we ad the money into the kitty and pay for everything and split the difference at the end of the trip. Keep in mind that none of us wants to spend a lot of money, so the aim is to be as cheap as possible. The flipside however is that we will be living, eating and sh**ting at a campsite 200kms north of nowhere, so we still want to make sure that we are comfortable. I would much rather over budget and get some money back, than under budget and have to dig into the credit card while we are up there.

I have noted the probable costs per person:

Accomodation: $83
Petrol: $150
Bait: $20
Food: $80
TOTAL: $333

I suggest we put in $350 each. I suspect that will get away with less, but it pays to be prepared. Let me know what you think. I am happy to take care of the money matters, but if the team wants to, we can vote in a member to be the financial caretaker.

Also, I have purchased 20 break out sinkers at a rate of $2.75 each. You can get them of me at that rate.

I am currently devising a menu which I propose on the weekend before we go food shopping. We can then amend, or redesign it!

Tight lines

In Control

Contrary to popular belief we are actually well in control in terms our organisation of our big trip. Unless you are a woman, you should be able to plan a fishing trip in 2 minutes flat! In twenty business days I have planned a trip around the world! Trips to Fiji, China, SA, Australia Malaysia etc. So you can feel safe that you are in experienced hands. No need to panic just yet, so if you are of a nervous disposition please call 0800-chillpill and relax!

We have accommodation sorted, tickets sorted, transport sorted. Tents, furniture, cookware, t-shirts etc. If you don't have your fishing gear sorted, the get on to it as I wont be wiping your bottom as well!

So really we only have a few small issues to sort out. Some are related to fishing, and some are related to the trip itself.

OK the photo's: Remember this is not a FBI identification kit!!! DON'T PAY for the photo. A normal digital photo taken by Mrs fisherman and cropped on your own pc is perfectly fine. Get that done and e-mail to me, I will do the rest.

Bait: We need to organise our bait situation. My ideas are that we will mostly use fresh shellfish and bait fish, which we can get by the bucket load at the beach. We will need a good supply of squid and some pillies. I also think that it will be a good idea to test some juvenile rudd before we go up as it just looks like a perfect snapper bait. Remember that we will be catching piper and the like off the wharf at night so we don't need 300 kgs of bait. Most of the winning fish were caught with fresh bait.

As for the sinkers, I can assure you that we will not need 40 sinkers!!!!!! I have used less than 10 break out sinkers in my whole surfcasting career! And if you ask some of the team members, I have a knack of casting my rig without the mainline so I am pretty heavy on terminal tackle. Half that should be sufficient. Don't worry about sending money as I will list the costs of things we need to buy, and members can then let me know if they will be happy to reimburse me at which point I will go ahead and make the purchase.

The rest of the fishing gear is up to the individual members. Remember that theoretically you can fish this whole comp with one rig.... Keep that in mind when you are packing as we have limited space.

We will need to sort out food, but I suggest that we do a shop the day before. We should do this by making a list that same day in order to make sure what each member eat and don't eat.

One more thing. After looking at the calender, I have worked out the following timeline: Feb 27/28 Members meet in Hamilton (Tjaart you can stay at ours if you like) Feb 28 day and evening - food and bait shopping. 1 March Leave Hamilton for Whangarei at a comfortable time in the morning. If possible test our gear at the local beach and spend the evening at my inlaws. ( They kindly agreed to have us if we behave)

March 2: Leave Whangarei for Waipapakauri (comp base) Register, and head north to our camping ground. Once we have set up camp, we can have a brandy and head down to the beach to check it out and to get some shellfish if the tide allows. From there we will go to the briefing at6 pm and then go home for another brandy, and some fishing off the wharf and lots of sleep to get ready for the early start the next day.

I am not sure what else we need to sort a month out from the comp.... If anyone can think of something, let me know.
